How to Scare a Riverside Mouse Away

Mice are nocturnal rodents. They come to your home in search of food and shelter. They like to stay in dark and dry areas. Mice multiply rapidly and if they are not promptly removed you may have mice infestation. It is therefore best to prevent their entry. All entry points must be closed. This can be done by sealing all cracks and gaps in walls. Hole used for cable wire or plumbing must be plugged well. Avoid leaving food and crumbs on kitchen counters. If a mouse has gained entry it is best to scare it away using a suitable method. Some common and effective methods are given below.



Trapping mice
Snapping traps with bits of food like cheese, fresh fruit or vegetables can be used to catch Riverside mice. Glue mouse traps can also be used in areas where you suspect mice moving or hiding. Be careful to see that no one from the family step on them. This can be harmful to the skin.

Poisons
Commercial poisons are available in the market. Using poison is not advisable for two reasons. Firstly the mouse is sure to die. This is because the poisons are made with products to entice mice. The California mouse may die in a hidden place and you may find it difficult to locate them. The stench is unbearable and cleaning messy. The second reason is that what is poisonous for a mouse will be poisonous for humans and other animals also. It is risky if you have children or pets.

Getting a cat
Having a cat is a great solution to get rid of mice. Cats are natural predators and hunt mice. The smell of a cat is enough to scare mice away. Barn cats hunt Riverside mice for food. Sometimes home cats which are well fed may lose their natural instinct to chase mice. Kittens are generally trained by their mothers to catch mice. If you are not a pet lover think twice. Cats have to be looked after.

Zapping mice with ultrasounds
There are electronic units sold which emit an ultrasonic beeping sound. Rodents hate this sound. These sounds only work on a single line of sight. Hence, it is essential to know the path the California mice are taking. They are temporary and mice get used to these sounds with time.

Using repellents
Mice have a strong sense of smell and repelled by some smells. Some repellents are peppermint oil and ammonia. Mint scented solutions used for cleaning can scare mice away. They are safe and harmless to people and pets. Planting mint near your home can also act as a deterrent. A cotton ball with mint oil can be placed near a garbage can or places you do not Riverside mice to enter. Replace them after 5-7 days. The strong smell of Ammonia may be harmful to humans also. Other deterrents include cayenne pepper, Tabasco sauce and cloves. Commercial sprays which have compounds of urinary products secreted by cats, snakes and other predators are available.
